A Quick Look
The SUNY Oneonta volleyball team ended a three-game losing streak with a 3-1 victory over Brockport in SUNYAC action Saturday afternoon at Dewar Arena. The win lifts Oneonta's record to 16-6 overall and 4-3 in league play.
The Inside Story
The Red Dragons took the first set 25-20. With the scored tied at 5-5, Oneonta went on a 7-1 run
to take a 12-6 lead. Brockport would pull within a point on four different occasions, but the Red Dragons refused to give in.
Clara Culeton (Oswego/Oswego) and
Kathryn Johnston (Altamont/Guilderland) closed out the set for Oneonta with a pair of kills.
Oneonta took a 2-0 lead with a hard fought 26-24 win in the second set. The Red Dragons trailed for the majority of the set. Trailing 19-13, a
Gillian Stieglitz (Montrose/Hendrick Hudson) kill, and a
Lindsay Pelaccio (Verplanck/Hendrick Hudson) service ace gave the Red Dragons life. The Golden Eagles held a 22-17 advantage before a
Clara Culeton (Oswego/Oswego) service ace and a kill; along with a
Kathryn Johnston (Altamont/Guilderland) kill pulled Oneonta within striking distance. With Brockport leading 24-22, Oneonta closed out the set with a 4-0 run with
Adriana Losier (Fishkill/John Jay) at the service.Â
The Golden Eagles stayed alive with a 25-17 win in the third set. Oneonta would close out the match with a 25-15 victory in the fourth set. The two teams went back and forth early on, playing to five different ties. With Oneonta clinging to an 8-7 lead, the Red Dragons went on a 4-0 run with three kills from
Clara Culeton (Oswego/Oswego) and a service ace from
Jessica Fowler (Burnt Hills/Burnt Hills). Oneonta would put the set out of reach with another 4-0 run late in the set with
Lindsay Pelaccio (Verplanck/Hendrick Hudson) at the service to make the score 23-12. Another kill by
Clara Culeton (Oswego/Oswego) and an attack error by Brockport secured the victory for Oneonta.

Clara Culeton (Oswego/Oswego) finished with a match high 17 kills along with a team best .469 hitting percentage.
Gillian Stieglitz (Montrose/Hendrick Hudson) added nine kills and two blocks while
Adriana Losier (Fishkill/John Jay) chipped in with eight kills.
Jessica Fowler (Burnt Hills/Burnt Hills) contributed 35 assists while
Lindsay Pelaccio (Verplanck/Hendrick Hudson) had 18 digs.
