In a game that came down to the final shot, it was Oswego's Brandan Gartland that buried a three-pointer at the buzzer to steal a 72-69 win from host SUNY Oneonta in men's basketball action in the Dewar Arena. Oneonta's
Joseph Bull (Bronx, NY/Mount St. Michael Academy) had just made a layup at the other end to tie the score with nine seconds left.

Oswego (12-2, 7-0 SUNYAC) inbounded the ball to point guard Liam Sanborn who quickly moved the ball over half court penetrating the paint before tossing it back out to an open Gartland, who had time to set himself before hitting nothing but the bottom of the net as time expired. The shot was the only field goal of the second half for Gartland.

"We played tough and I am proud of our effort," said Head Coach
Cameron Conover. "This one hurst, but we have to move forward and get ready for Buffalo State."

The score was tied four times during the final four minutes of play, with Oneonta coming back three of those times to knot the score. A pair of free throws by sophomore
Andres Rivera (Bronx, NY/Walton) gave Oneonta (6-7, 1-6 SUNYAC) gave them their final lead at 65-63 with 2:06 left on the clock. Rivera finished the game with 16 points.

The Red Dragons made seven, three-pointers in the opening half, as they grabbed a 40-33 lead at the break. Junior
Kevin Mackin (Nanuet, NY/Nanuet) connected on 4-of-6 from behind the arc scoring 13 of his 18 points to lead Oneonta through the first twenty minutes of play.

Oneonta trailed 15-10 at the 14:52 mark of the first half before scoring seven unanswered to grab its first lead of the contest. Rivera capped the run with a layup at the 12:44 mark. Sanborn tied the game briefly for the Lakers before Oneonta regained the lead for the remainder of the half.

Oneonta continued to hold onto its lead through the first 10 minutes of the second half until a pair of free throws by Joe Sullivan gave the Lakers a 52-51 lead at 9:59. Oswego created a small lead for about five minutes before Mackin drilled a three-pointer to tie the game at 61 apiece with 3:57 remaining.

Joining Rivera and Mackin in double figures for Oneonta was Bull who finished with 15 points. Bull also grabbed a team high eight rebounds.

Sanborn was the high man for the Lakers with 19 points followed by Sullivan who had 16 points and Gartland who had 15 points.

Oneonta will take to the road this weekend for a pair of SUNYAC games starting on Friday night at Buffalo State. The Red Dragons will face Fredonia on Saturday afternoon.
