The SUNY Oneonta Wrestling team held on to defeat Gettysburg College 28-18 on Thursday evening.
The Red Dragons (5-4) took an early 16-0 lead over Gettysburg following two forfeits and a major decision victory by
Ahken Chu (Patterson/Carmel) at 141 pounds.
Oneonta took a 19-9 lead when
Thomas Marrone (Pleasantville/Pleasantville) won a 6-4 decision in the 165 pound weight class.
After Gettysburg rallied to within a point after winning the 174 and 184 weight classes, senior
Peter Pjetri (Suffern/Suffern) gave the Red Dragons some breathing room with a 7-2 decision in the 197 weight class.
In a matchup of two nationally ranked heavyweights, second ranked
James Bethel (Saugerties/Saugerties) of Oneonta pinned seventh ranked Paul Triandafilou in just 1:03. Â
