Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Volleyball Downs Potsdam in SUNYAC Pool Play

The SUNY Oneonta volleyball team went 1-2 in SUNYAC pool play this weekend. After falling to Oswego 3-0 on Friday evening, the Red Dragons opened Saturday's action with a 3-1 victory over Potsdam before coming up short in a 3-2 loss to Geneseo.

After battling to a 27-25 victory in the first set, the Bears knotted up the match with a 25-13 victory in the second. Oneonta held their ground, taking the next two sets by a scores of 25-21. Clara Culeton (Oswego/Oswego) had 12 kills in the match while Kathryn Johnston (Altamont/Guilderland) and Victoria Moulder (Wantagh/Kellenberg Memorial) chipped in with 10 apiece.

Culeton and Moulder paced the Red Dragons this weekend with 32 kills apiece. Culeton also added a team-high seven service aces while Moulder led the way with eight blocks. Jessica Fowler (Burnt Hills/Burnt Hills) dished out 108 assists and six service aces while Lindsay Pelaccio (Verplanck/Hendrick Hudson) had 63 digs.

"Although we did not begin the conference the way that we wanted, our team rallied back for our competition on Saturday and competed in one of the most exciting matches we played all season. After our loss against Oswego, we reflected that this conference is competitive and although starting out with a loss can be tough, we need to continue to fight our way through the conference. There was no use of wallowing in our loss because we have other battles that need to be fought for the next day and for the duration of our SUNYAC Pool Play", said Coach Ashley Coyle.

"On Saturday, Oneonta tapped into a competitive energy that grew throughout our Potsdam match and ultimately pushed Geneseo to a five set match. We were able to stay gritty throughout each set, especially during Geneseo, and prove to ourselves that we are capable of playing a high level volleyball. Our performance on Saturday is a testament to the resilience our team has to grow from adversity and pursue greatness from here on out. We will keep growing, competing, and preparing for our next round in the SUNYAC ring", added Coach Ashley Coyle.

The Red Dragons will host Scranton University on Wednesday, September 26th at 6:00 p.m.
