The SUNY Oneonta volleyball team fell to Scranton University 3-1 in non-conference action Wednesday evening at Dewar Arena. The loss drops the Red Dragons record to 6-10 on the year while the Royals even their record at 9-9.
After dropping the first set 25-23, the Red Dragons earned a victory in the second set 25-21. Oneonta's excitement was short lived as the Royals took the final two sets 25-8 and 25-20.
Clara Culeton (Oswego/Oswego) led the way for the Red Dragons with eight kills and two blocks.Â
Lindsay Pelaccio (Verplanck/Hendrick Hudson) collected 16 digs while
Jessica Fowler (Burnt Hills/Burnt Hills) dished out 21 assists.
Kathryn Johnston (Altamont/Guilderland) and
Victoria Moulder (Wantagh/Kellenberg Memorial) added five kills apiece in the loss.
In the second set, the score was tied at 20-20 until an attack error by Megan Monastra gave the Red Dragons the lead. A
Gillian Stieglitz (Montrose/Hendrick Hudson) kill would increase the Oneonta lead to 22-20. After the Royals pulled within a point,
Jessica Fowler (Burnt Hills/Burnt Hills) set up
Clara Culeton (Oswego/Oswego) for a kill, putting the Red Dragons up 23-21. Back-to-back attack errors by Scranton secured the win the Oneonta.
Oneonta returns to action on Friday, September 28
th when they play New Rochelle in the opener of the Skidmore Invitational at 6:00 p.m.
