Women's lacrosse picks up pair of wins on Florida trip

The SUNY Oneonta women's lacrosse team traveled south to Florida this week where they were able to pick up a pair of wins to remain unbeaten through the first three games of the 2018 season.  The Red Dragons overwhelmed Simmons on Tuesday 21-8 while grinding out a late victory against Misericordia yesterday 14-12.

Senior Taylor Casey (Garden City South/Kellenberg Memorial) led the attack versus Simmons with a career high six goals and six assists.  Her 12 points brought her to 201 points for her career making her the fifth player in program history to eclipse 200 career points.

Classmate Jaime Morris (West Nyack/Clarkstown South) contributed three goals and three assists.  Sophia Calabrese (Bethlehem/Bethlehem Central) and Erin Fowler (East Meadow/East Meadow) each collected three goals.  Kelsey Cohen (Baldwin/Baldwin) registered four points on one goal and three assists.

Junior Jaclyn Marry (Long Beach/Long Beach) and sophomore Lexi Keen (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) split time in goal each making four saves in their 30 minutes of action.  Marry was the starter and picked up her first win of the season.

Oneonta seemed to be in control against Misericordia building a 9-3 lead at halftime.  A furious comeback in the second half by the Tigers tied the score at 12-12 with just under five minutes remaining in the contest.

Sophomore Shannon Giddens (Franklin Square/H Frank Carey) broke the tie with an unassisted goal at the 2:09 mark.  Morris put the finishing touches on the win with an unassisted goal with 51 seconds to go.

Freshman Abbi Zalucky (Averill Park/Averill Central) led all scorers in the game with five goals to pace the Oneonta attack.  Cohen and Giddens added a pair of goals each and Casey contributed a pair of assists.

Keen recorded 13 saves in the game to pick up her first win of the season.

Oneonta returns to New York for a game at Farmingdale tomorrow beginning 3:30pm.
