Match Recap: Women's Tennis |

Women’s Tennis falls to RIT in non-traditional season matchup

Binghamton, NY – There are days when things just don't go your way. Today was one of them as the SUNY Oneonta Women's Tennis Team lost all nine courts and was shut out by the RIT Tigers at home a match that was played at the Binghamton Tennis Center.

Singles started first today and there were several close matches played.  Noteworthy contests was freshman Julieta Eulau (Oceanside/Oceanside) who lost two close sets 6-4, 6-4 in a match that had very long rallies but the RIT number two singles player was just a little better today winning some key points.

The number three player freshman Mya Lipscomb (Peekskill/Walter Panas) was undefeated going into singles competition today.  All good things must come to an end.  Lipscomb dropped the first set 6-2 and then fought her way back to win the second set 7-5 only to lose the super-tiebreaker in hotly contested battle 12-10.  The fourth positioned player was junior Michelle Halpern (Rye Brook/Blind Brook) who lost the first set 6-3 and was up serving for the second set at 5-4 but could not close her opponent out and settled for a loss as she dropped the second set 7-5.  Senior Samantha Felice (Seneca Falls/Mynderse Academy) playing in the fifth spot in the lineup also was serving for the first set at 6-5 and eventually lost that in a tiebreaker and could not recover losing the second set 6-1.  Sophomore Danielle Swierczyna (Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) dropped her match at the sixth spot also playing tough with long points but her opponent had a superior arsenal.

The highlight of doubles was at the number one flight as junior Alyssa Brault (Rochester/Churchville-Chili) and Eulau tried to salvage a victory for the Red Dragons but lost a very close contest in a tiebreaker.

The Red Dragons are now 12-4 on the 2017/18 year and now have to play regionally ranked and always powerful William Smith College on Sunday, April 8th beginning at 12 noon on the campus of William Smith.
