Oneonta, NY. The SUNY Oneonta wrestling team lost a mid-week home matchup against SUNY Oswego, 23-17. The Red Dragons dropped to 11-5, and the Lakers improved to 5-5. The Red Dragons also honored its six seniors before the match and all five seniors that wrestled won their bouts.

In the varsity match both, seniors Austin Sisco (Denville, NJ/Pope John) and Daniel Murphy (Poughkeepsie/Roy C. Ketcham) won their bouts. Sisco's victory came at 133 pounds by means of a major decision, 16-2. Murphy's victory came at 157 pounds with a 6-2 decision over Joe Bush.

Adam Groesbeck (Bethlehem/Bethlehem Central), Anthony Messina (Farmingville/Sachem East), and Matt Marino (Nesconset/Sachem North) all won their bouts in the exhibition matches. To open up the day, Messina and Marino won their bouts with decision victories before the varsity matches began. Groesbeck won via pin in the last match of the night to close out senior day with a bang. He defeated his opponent in 1:12.  

Other notable victories for the Red Dragons came at 141 pounds by sophomore Kevin Knox (Stormville/Carmel) via decision, 7-4. At 197 pounds, junior Peter Pjetri (Suffern/Suffern) beat his opponent in a high scoring match of 13-11 and, to cap the varsity matches, James Bethel (Saugerties/Saugerties) beat his opponent by a major decision 12-0.

The Red Dragons are back in action this weekend at the RIT Tri-Invite.
