Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Field Hockey Outlasts Cortland, 4-3

The SUNY Oneonta field hockey team earned a thrilling 4-3 victory over SUNY Cortland Friday afternoon at All College Field. The win lifts Oneonta's record to 6-5 overall and 2-0 in the SUNYAC. With the loss, Cortland drops to7-4 overall and 1-1 in the SUNYAC.

Oneonta got on the board first when Chloe Lynch (Baldwinsville/Baldwinsville) put back a rebound just 4:11 into the game.

Cortland would tie the game before the half when Kelly Durso found Jess Gibaldi next to the left post for her 11th goal of the season.

Oneonta went back in front in the 42nd minute on Grace Bilow's (Webster/Webster Thomas) third goal of the season. Unfortunately, the Oneonta lead only held up for 22 seconds as Valerie Brillaud slipped a rebound into the back of the net, knotting the game at 2-2. Brillaud struck again in the 47th minute when she ripped a shot that found its way past Danell Jones (Whitney Point/Whitney Point) and a defender, giving the guests a 3-2 lead.

Oneonta came storming back when Allyson Wells (Niskayuna/Niskayuna) put back rebound in the 48th minute to tie the game at 3-3. Oneonta's Carissa Warren (Harpursville/Harpursville) netted the game winner in the 67th minute on a feed from Grace Bilow (Webster/Webster Thomas) on a penalty corner.

Oneonta goalkeeper Danell Jones (Whitney Point/Whitney Point) made 13 saves, including five in the second half. Cortland outshot Oneonta 25-6 in the game.

Oneonta returns to SUNYAC action tomorrow afternoon when they host SUNY Oswego at 1:00 p.m.
