Oneonta, NY. The SUNY Oneonta field hockey team cruised past Keuka College, 5-1 on their senior day. The Red Dragons improved their record to 8-2, and the Wolves dropped to 2-7. For the Red Dragons, juniors
Allyson Bilow (Webster/Webster Thomas) and
Allyson Wells (Niskayuna/Niskayuna) each scored a pair of goals.
The Red Dragons struck early in the contest at the 3:22 mark. Wells scored the first goal after getting the rebound off a
Nicole Johnston (Bedford Village/Fox Lane) shot. The next goal came in the 21
st minute off the stick of freshman
Cali Cortese (Yorktown Heights/Lakeland). Cortese took the ball and dribbled around the goalie to find the back of the cage to give Oneonta a 2-0 lead. Three minutes later the last of the Red Dragons goals in the first half came when Bilow took a beautifully placed cross from sophomore
Alise Anson (Stone Ridge/Rondout Valley) to beat the goal to give the Red Dragons a three goal lead.
The long Keuka goal of the match came at the 27:56 mark, when Alyssa Orsino used a deflection to beat the goalie. On the play, Nicole Wilson earned the assist.
At the half, the Red Dragons outshot the Wolves 7-5 and had two more penalty corners, 5-3.
Out of the break, the Red Dragons picked up where they left off in the first half with another goal by Bilow. She was assisted on the play by Johnston. This was Johnston's second assist of the year.
The last goal of the match came off the stick of Wells in the 57
th minute. Wells showcased her speed as she outran the Keuka defense to beat the goaltender 1v1 on an almost parallel shot from the right side of the circle.
Sophomore
Danell Jones (Whitney Point/Whitney Point) recorded one save to earn her seventh victory of the season.
