Cortland,NY. The Red Dragons split on the weekend going 2-2 at the 33rd Annual Cortland Red Dragon Women's Volleyball Classic. The Red Dragons defeated both University of Rochester and Alfred College, and fell to Nazareth College and Juniata. Senior
Melissa Voyer (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker) was selected to the All-Tournament Team.
The opening day the Red Dragons dropped their first match to Nazareth in a straight set, 3-0. In the match, sophomore
Jessica Fowler (Burnt Hills/Burnt Hills) had a team high 24 assists, and
Gillian Stieglitz (Montrose/Hendrick Hudson) and
Meghan Keyes (Burnt Hills/Burnt Hills) had eight kills. Voyer had a match high four blocks.
The Red Dragons bounced back quickly with their next match taking down Rochester in three sets, 3-0. Fowler had 30 assists, and
Katelyn McDonough (Guilderland/Guilderland) had 13 digs.
Victoria Moulder (Wantagh/Kellenberg Memorial) had 12 kills, Keyes and
Justine Abbate (Massapequa/Massapequa) had four aces apiece.
On Saturday, the final day of the classic, the Red Dragons dropped their opening match to eventual classic champion Juniata (4-0). In the match
Lindsay Pelaccio (Verplanck/Hendrick Hudson) had two service aces to lead the Red Dragons.
The Red Dragons rounded off the weekend by taking a straight set from Alfred, 3-0. Keyes led the team with 10 kills and she also had three blocks. Fowler had 31 assists and three service aces and McDonough had a team high 13 digs. Â
The Red Dragons are back in action in a mid-week matchup against Hartwick College at Hartwick on Wednesday, September 6
th.
