Rochester, NY – The Red Dragon women's tennis team got off to a rough start in their spring season by losing their first two contests. Today however they look to be getting back in mid-season form as they took on the RIT Tigers on the road.
Doubles play started with the Red Dragons getting off to a rough beginning. The number one squad of sophomore
Alyssa Brault (Rochester/Churchville-Chili) and freshman Jacqueline Guidice stayed close with their opponents but once broken they could not recover and fell 8-3. The number two duo of senior
Alana Green (Pittsford/Pittsford) and sophomore
Faith Haedrich (Islip/Islip) doubled up their opponents with steady play both from the baseline and net scoring an 8-4 triumph. That triumph allowed the Red Dragons to salvage an all-important point to keep the team down only 2-1 after doubles play.
In singles the Red Dragons were almost perfect scoring wins at the number two-through six positions. Guidice in the second position was dominant scoring a 6-2, 6-0 triumph, Brault at number three was very impressive tallying her second 6-0, 6-0 win in a row. Sophomore
Michelle Halpern (Rye Brook/Blind Brook) was a little rusty in the first set but got back on track in the second set steadying up her groundstrokes and scored a 2-6, 6-3 (13-11) victory. Senior
Kayla Houle (Apalachin/Owego Free Academy) was never in any trouble and dominated her opponent with a 6-3, 6-1 win. At number six junior
Samantha Felice (Seneca Falls/Mynderse Academy) shook off some rust from a previous injury holding her out for over a week and rolled to a 6-2, 6-2. Felice's win proved to be the team clincher for the Red Dragon women as the team scored a very impressive 6-3 victory against a very formidable opponent. The win puts the Red Dragons at 2-2 for the spring and 13-6 on the 2016/17 campaign.
The Red Dragons have two-days off and prepare for a match against Wilkes University who are currently undefeated. The match is scheduled to be played at Wilkes on Tuesday, 4/25 beginning at 4 PM.
