Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Cohen and Casey lead women's lacrosse past Buffalo State

Sophomore Kelsey Cohen (Baldwin/Baldwin) and junior Taylor Casey (Garden City South/Kellenberg Memorial) combined for 11 goals today in leading a second half explosion for the SUNY Oneonta women's lacrosse 22-14 victory at Buffalo State.  The win for the Red Dragons moved them to 7-6 overall and 3-3 in the SUNYAC with two games remaining in the regular season.
 
Casey tallied three of her five goals today in the first half including a goal with one second remaining in the half to give the Red Dragons an 11-10 lead heading into the intermission.
 
Oneonta grabbed a 7-3 lead midway through the opening half before the Bengals stormed back to take a 10-8 lead with less than two minutes to go.  Cohen, Lindsey Rose (Camillus/West Genesee) and Casey closed the half with three straight to give the Red Dragons the lead.
 
Oneonta pulled away with a 7-1 spurt in the first 17 minutes of the second half.  Cohen registered four of her game high six goals during the run.  Senior Katie Flannery (Massapequa/Plainedge), Casey and Rose contributed one goal each.  Flannery finished the game with a team high three assists.
 
The 22 goals for Oneonta today were a season high.  Rose finished with three goals as did freshman Kelly Clarke (East Meadow/East Meadow).
 
The Red Dragons converted eight of 12 free position shots and only turned the ball over nine times.
 
Sophomore Jaclyn Marry (Long Beach/Long Beach) and freshman Lexi Keen (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) combined to make eight saves today for Oneonta.
 
The Red Dragons will play its remaining two regular season games at the friendly confines of Red Dragon Field.  Oneonta will host Potsdam on Wednesday and Fredonia next Saturday.
