Taylor Casey (Garden City South/Kellenberg Memorial) took a feed from senior
Katie Flannery (Massapequa/Plainedge) and buried a shot to the back of the goal to lift the SUNY Oneonta women's lacrosse team to a 16-15 win against Potsdam today in overtime. Casey finished the game with six goals while Flannery finished with a career high eight assists, which also tied the program single-game record set back in 2009.

The game appeared to be in hand in the first half with Oneonta (8-6, 4-3 SUNYAC) leading 12-7. Potsdam didn't quit and clawed its way back in the second half outscoring the Red Dragons 8-3 to force the extra period. Senior Murphy Newman led the Bears with six goals including three straight to tie the game at 15 apiece with less than five minutes to go in regulation.

Casey tallied four of her goals in the second half and overtime to reach 42 goals on the season. Flannery also added a goal to lead all players with nine points. Flannery currently leads Oneonta with 61 points on 24 goals and a team leading 37 assists.

Sophomore
Kelsey Cohen (Baldwin/Baldwin) (3g, 1a) and Flannery opened the scoring for Oneonta with back-to-back tallies in the first three minutes. After a Michaela Cole goal by Potsdam (3-11, 0-7 SUNYAC) at 6:14 into the match, Oneonta ran off three straight to grab a 5-1 advantage.

Newman and Alyssa Ferenczy went back-to-back on free position goals to cut into Oneonta's lead. The Red Dragons countered with six unanswered goals by six different players to take command 11-3 with under four minutes to go in the opening half.

The Bears put together a run of four goals over a span of 2:23 to get back to within four goals at 11-7. A goal by Cohen with two seconds remaining in the half pushed the Red Dragons lead back to five goals heading into intermission.

Senior Katie Lapinski scored back-to-back and Newman added a third goal to open the second half scoring for Potsdam making the score 12-10.

Back-to-back goals by Casey gave Oneonta some breathing room, but Potsdam went on its four-goal run to tie the game at 15-15.

Freshman goalie
Lexi Keen (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) picked up her second win of the season in goal for Oneonta. Keen came in to start the second half for the Red Dragons and collected seven saves including two while on the ground on back-to-back shots with less than two minutes to go.

Oneonta will conclude the regular season at home this Saturday when they face Fredonia beginning at 1pm. The Red Dragons have already clinched a playoff spot, but do not know where they will be seeded until after Saturday's game. The SUNYAC tournament begins next Tuesday, May 2 at higher seed sites.
