Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Women's lacrosse runs past city rival Hartwick

Cohen and Flannery lead attack

Sophomore Kelsey Cohen (Baldwin/Baldwin) scored a career-best six goals and senior Katie Flannery (Massapequa/Plainedge) collected a career-best nine points today to lead the SUNY Oneonta women's lacrosse team to a lopsided 18-6 victory against city-rival Hartwick.  Oneonta broke the game open midway through the first half en route to its third win of the season.

Flannery got Oneonta (3-3) started less than one minute into the game with her first of four goals on the afternoon.  Cohen and junior Jaime Morris (West Nyack/Clarkstown South) followed to give the Red Dragons a 3-0 lead nearly 11 minutes into the contest.

Emma Knapp put Hartwick (3-4) on the scoreboard just over one minute later when she scored an unassisted tally before Megan Young scored off an assist from Ashley Werner to make the score 3-2.

The Red Dragons then seized the momentum running off seven unanswered to take a commanding 10-2 lead with less than six minutes to go in the opening half.  Flannery scored a pair, Cohen tallied four and Morris added one during the run.

Sophomore Cara Zanta (Scotia/Scotia-Glenville Senior) sandwiched a goal between Kayla Tracey and Lauren Rosenberg to make the score 11-4 in favor of Oneonta heading into the intermission.

Flannery notched her final goal of the game 40 seconds into the second half.  Freshmen Shannon Giddens (Franklin Square/H Frank Carey) and Erin Fowler (East Meadow/East Meadow) each scored their second goals of the season during the final minutes of the game.  Giddens assisted on Fowler's goal, which was the 18th and final goal of the game for the Red Dragons.

Sophomore Jaclyn Marry (Long Beach/Long Beach) and freshman Lexi Keen (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) split the game today and combined for four saves.

The women will open SUNYAC play this Saturday at home when they face SUNY Geneseo beginning at 3pm.
