The SUNY Oneonta wrestling program honored its seniors today while also grabbing a 27-17 victory over visiting RIT in an afternoon matchup at Chase Gymnasium.
 
The match started at 125 lbs. where senior Dominic DeGraba (Dallas, PA/Dallas) won by decision to give the Red Dragons the first team points of the match, 3-0. Junior Austin Sisco (Denville, NJ/Pope John Regional) followed at 133 lbs. and pinned Isaiah Ocasio in 1:44 giving Oneonta early control of the match, 9-0.
 
The Tigers' first points came at 141 lbs. when Jake Sepor took a win via 10-5 decision over senior Richard Dennison (Port Jervis/Minisink Valley). Senior Nicholas Heck (West Pittston/Wyoming Area) captured his last home victory with a 8-2 decision.
 
After Daniel Murphy (Poughkeepsie/Roy C. Ketcham) got majored at 157 lbs., senior Evan Wallace (East Greenbush/Columbia) beat the RIT's John Donohue by major decision 21-10 at 165 lbs. to give Oneonta a 12-7 lead in the overall match. 
 
RIT's Tory Cain answered with a pin of sophomore Daniel DeCarlo (Port Jervis/Port Jervis) at 174 lbs. to bring the score to within three points at 16-13.
 
RIT would take their first lead of the day when Nicholas Green won by major decision over sophomore Lantze Lange (Smithtown/Smithtown West) at 184 lbs. bringing the score to 17-16 in favor of the Tigers.
 
Oneonta closed the match with wins at 197 lbs. by sophomore Peter Pjetri (Suffern/Suffern) and 285 lbs. with junior James Bethel (Saugerties/Saugerties) who pinned Wyatt Morris in 1:17.
 
In the exhibition matches, Oneonta freshman Kevin Knox (Stormville/Carmel) won his match by major decision 13-0. Junior Matt Marino (Nesconset/Sachem North) add a victory to his record with a decision over RIT's Coty Lutz. Finishing the exhibition matches was senior Andrew Werther (Islip/Islip) pinning Logan Calkins in 3:52.
 
The Red Dragons will not compete again until Saturday, Feb. 25^th at NCAA Northeast Regionals at Roger Williams.  This is the qualifying tournament for berths to the NCAA Division III Championships during the weekend of Mar. 10-11 in Wisconsin.  The top-3 finishers in each of the ten weight classes will earn the trip to nationals.
