Wrestling wins Electric City Duals; Sisco records 100th victory

Bethel earns MOW; Sisco records 100th collegiate win

The SUNY Oneonta wrestling team swept the competition en route to winning the Electric City Duals today. The Red Dragons faced off and beat Temple University, Lackawanna, RIT and Scranton to finish the day 4-0. In the tournament senior James Bethel (Saugerties/Saugerties) was named the Most Outstanding Wrestler and Austin Sisco (Denville, NJ/Pope John) recorded his 100th collegiate victory.

In the first match of the day, the Red Dragons defeated Temple by a score of 32-10. In the match for the Red Dragons Lantze Lange (Smithtown/Smithtown West) pinned his opponent in 1:13. Sophomore Kevin Knox (Stormville/Carmel) and senior Anthony Messina (Farmingville/Sachem East) won their matches by major decision.

In the RIT matchup, Oneonta beat the Tigers by a score of 31-12. In the 149lbs class, Tyler Brazinski (Johnson City/Johnson City) pinned his opponent and at heavyweight Bethel took down his opponent via pin also.

The Red Dragons made short work of Lackawanna by winning via shutout 48-0.  In the match Oneonta pinned five of its opponents, and won one match via tech fall by Ryan Marszal (Unadilla/Unatego).

In the final match of the day, the Red Dragons beat the Scranton Royals by a score of 23-13. The Royals took the first points of the match winning the 125lbs class by decision to go up 3-0. The next three matchups favored the Red Dragons with a tech fall and two decisions to take an 11-3 lead. The Royals battled back with two decision victories to bring the score within two points at 11-9. With the score 14-13 in favor of the Red Dragons, junior Peter Pjetri (Suffern/Suffern) beat his opponent by a score of 6-2 (decision) to bring the Red Dragon lead to 17-13. The last match up ended quickly as Bethel wrapped up his opponent for a pin in 24 seconds to seal the victory 23-13.

Also on the day, Austin Sisco (Denville, NJ/Pope John) recorded his 100th career NCAA win against RIT.  

The Red Dragons are back in action at the NYS Collegiate Championships at Cornell on November 19th starting at 10am.
