The SUNY Oneonta wrestling team hosted King's College tonight and came away with a decisive 28-12 victory.  The win for the Red Dragons improved its dual-meet record to 8-2-1 while the Monarchs dropped to 7-12.

The dual would start at 197 lbs., with sophomore Peter Pjetri (Suffern/Suffern) against sophomore Eddie Merrill.  Merrill put his team ahead 6-0 after recording a pin over Pjetri in the first minute of the second period (3:52).

Next up at heavyweight, junior James Bethel (Saugerties/Saugerties), grabbed an immediate 2-0 lead with a takedown. He then built on his lead and after the second period held a 7-0 lead going into the third period. Bethel finished his victory and recorded a major decision putting Oneonta on the board and bringing the team score within two point (4-6).

The Monarchs extended its lead to 9-4 with a Dakota Quick decision over senior Dominic DeGraba (Dallas, PA/Dallas), 6-1.

The Red Dragons answered back at 133 lbs. class with nationally ranked No. 4 Austin Sisco (Denville, NJ/Pope John Regional) winning by decision over Jake Daniel. Sisco's victory would cut the Monarchs lead to 9-7.

Freshman Kevin Knox (Stormville/Carmel) wrestled up a weight class to 141 lbs. to face Matt Sparks. In a close match, Knox won by decision, 12-7, to give Oneonta its first lead of the day at 10-9. Knox's victory would give Oneonta momentum going into the next match.

At 149 lbs., senior Richard Dennison (Port Jervis/Minisink Valley) pinned the Monarchs' Tony Immediato in first round (2:35) to give Oneonta six more points. Following Dennison, at 157 lbs., sophomore Daniel Murphy (Poughkeepsie/Roy C. Ketcham) extended Oneonta's lead to 19-9 with a victory by decision (6-3).

At 165 lbs., Oneonta sealed the match when senior Evan Wallace (East Greenbush/Columbia) recorded a 10-4 over Howard Kilpatrick (22-9).

Sophomore Lantze Lange (Smithtown/Smithtown West) closed out the match for the Red Dragons by pinning Nick Price (2:36).

The Red Dragons will be back in action this Saturday, Jan. 28 for a quad meet at Wilkes College.
