The Red Dragons their conference opener to SUNY Geneseo 4-1. The Red Dragons fall to 1-6, 0-1 SUNYAC and the Knights capture their first victory to improve to 1-6, 1-1 SUNYAC.Â
The only goal scored for the Red Dragons was by senior midfielder Anna Torri (Niskayuna/Niskayuna), who finished off a loose ball on the crease in the 58th minute.Â
For the Knights junior forward Cara Stafford and junior forward Giovanna Fasanello each tallied a goal and an assist.
Geneseo opened a 3-0 halftime lead that proved to be the difference. Stafford finished a short pass on the goal mouth in the 15th minute before sophomore midfielder Tess Necaise tipped a shot by junior midfielder Diana Ruggiero out of the air and into the Red Dragon cage in the 18th minute.
Junior midfielder Morgan Maley cleaned up a loose ball off an Oneonta save with a shot from close range in the 26th minute to give the Knights a three-goal edge.Â
In the second half, Fasanello took a pass from Stafford and scored on a nice backhanded shot across the crease for the 4-0 edge in the 41st minute.Â
For the Red Dragons, Cassandra Miller (Endwell/Maine-Endwell) had four saves and Nicole Johnston (Bedford Village/Fox Lane) had one defensive save.
The Red Dragons continue SUNYAC play tomorrow when they take on the SUNY Brockport Golden Eagles in Brockport at 11:30am.
