Taylor Casey (Garden City South/Kellenberg Memorial) scored three times today, but it wasn't enough, as the SUNY Oneonta women's lacrosse team dropped its SUNYAC opener to Oswego 18-11. The Red Dragons are now 3-5 overall while the Lakers won its fifth straight and are now 5-1.
The Lakers never trailed in today's contest, as they jumped out from the opening draw and scored the game's first four goals. All four goals came in the opening five minutes.
Senior Emily Lange got the Lakers started just 18 seconds into the contest off an assist by classmate Erannan Shattuck. Lange would finish the game with four goals and one assist. Shattuck added two more assists and one goal to finish her day with four points.

Kelsey Cohen (Baldwin/Baldwin) got Oneonta on the scoreboard with her eighth goal of the season off an assist from classmate
Cara Zanta (Scotia/Scotia-Glenville Senior).
Oswego ran off three unanswered including a pair by senior Esther Gabriel, who would score two more goals while adding a pair of assists for a six-point game.
The Red Dragons answered with three straight including two by Casey to cut its deficit back to three goals at 7-4 with 3:49 remaining in the first half.
The Lakers closed the half with four consecutive goals to grab a commanding 11-4 lead at halftime.
The two teams would go back-and-forth in the second half. Oneonta got as close as six goals twice during the final 30 minutes, but three unanswered by the Lakers midway through the half pushed their lead to nine goals.

Jaclyn Marry (Long Beach/Long Beach) made nine saves today while Angela Ponto made six saves in goal for Oswego.
Oneonta will be travel to Scranton for a non conference game this Tuesday beginning at 7pm.
