Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Women's lacrosse edged in overtime by Potsdam

For the second straight game the SUNY Oneonta women's lacrosse team surged late.  Today they erased a four goal deficit in the final four minutes only to fall, 15-14, to SUNY Potsdam in overtime on the road in a key SUNYAC contest.

The drama began in the final 4:19 of the contest with Oneonta trailing 14-10 after a goal by Potsdam's Katie Lapinski.

Sophomore Taylor Casey (Garden City South/Kellenberg Memorial) started the comeback with her 26th goal of the season at the 2:53 mark.

Oneonta then ripped off the three goals to tie the score in a span of 42 seconds, the final goal coming with 39 seconds remaining by Jaime Morris (West Nyack/Clarkstown South).  Morris also scored the goal that pulled the Red Dragons to within one goal after freshman Kelsey Cohen (Baldwin/Baldwin) made the score 14-12 on a free position shot with 1:11 to go.

Potsdam controlled the ensuing draw and had one last opportunity that was stopped by freshman goalie Jaclyn Marry (Long Beach/Long Beach) on a free position shot by Michaela Cole, which forced the extra period.

Cole earned the draw to start the overtime and worked for a shot that found its way to the back of the goal by Murphy Newman, her 49th of the season, on a free position shot to end the game.

Oneonta never trailed in the opening half and took a 6-5 lead at halftime.  Freshman Cara Zanta (Scotia/Scotia-Glenville Senior), Casey and Clark gave Oneonta a 3-0 lead early before the Bears finally got on the scoreboard.  The Red Dragons built its lead to 6-2 before the Bears scored the final three goals of the first half.

Senior Catherine Clark (Burnt Hills/Burnt Hills) led the offense today with a pair of goals to go with five assists.  Casey and Cohen each added three goals while Casey also added a pair of assists.

The women will continue its season-ending road trip this Saturday at Fredonia against the Blue Devils beginning at 1pm.
