Women's lacrosse pulls out victory at Hartwick

Red Dragons score final three goals of contest

The SUNY Oneonta women's lacrosse team scored the game's final three goals to overcome a 6-4 deficit in a come-from-behind victory today at Hartwick.  Senior Catherine Clark (Burnt Hills/Burnt Hills)'s goal with 11:30 to go was sandwiched between two extra-player goals by classmate Rebecca Fildes (Red Hook/Red Hook) and sophomore Jaime Morris (West Nyack/Clarkstown South).  Fildes goal came with 6:18 remaining unassisted to put Oneonta (3-4) ahead 7-6.

Freshman Cara Zanta (Scotia/Scotia-Glenville Senior) earned the ensuing draw control, but Oneonta turned the ball over to Hartwick (3-5) with 4:18 to go.  The Hawks called a timeout and then executed a successful clear into Oneonta's third.

The Hawks then turned the ball over with just over two minutes remaining where Fildes controlled the ground ball that led to a good clear for Oneonta.  The Red Dragons controlled the ball for nearly two minutes killing the clock down to 17 seconds before turning it over.  Unfortunately, the Hawks could not capitalize on the miscue, as time expired.

The lead changed twice in the opening half of play with the Hawks gaining a 5-4 lead at halftime.

After falling behind 2-0, Oneonta bounced back with three unanswered to grab its first lead of the game.  Clark, freshman Allison Butler (Queensbury/Queensbury) and sophomore Taylor Casey (Garden City South/Kellenberg Memorial) each scored for the Red Dragons.

The Hawks came right back with three straight goals of its own to take the lead back at 5-3.  Abby Letourneau scored her second goal of the first half on a free position shot to give the Hawks a 4-3 advantage.

Freshman Danielle McIvor (Nanuet/Clarkstown) scored with an assist from Butler to get Oneonta to within one goal entering the break.

Freshman goalie Jaclyn Marry (Long Beach/Long Beach) made 10 saves, all in the first half, to earn her third win of the season for Oneonta.

Oneonta will open its SUNYAC schedule this Saturday at home versus Oswego beginning at 1pm.
