Hamilton, NY - The SUNY Oneonta women's lacrosse team played its second nationally ranked team in 10 days, as today the Red Dragons journeyed to No. 10, Hamilton College, to face the Continentals. The hosts stretched its winning streak to six games, handling SUNY Oneonta 17-5 in a non-league game at Steuben Field.

The Continentals (6-1) wasted no time in taking charge of the contest, scoring the game's first six goals. They also closed the game with a 9-1 run.

Taylor Casey (Garden City South/Kellenberg Memorial) scored three of Oneonta's five goals with freshman
Kelsey Cohen (Baldwin/Baldwin) picking up a pair of assists. Senior
Catherine Clark (Burnt Hills/Burnt Hills) and freshman
Allison Butler (Queensbury/Queensbury) collected one goal each to round out the scoring for Oneonta today.

Caroline McCarthy led Hamilton with six points and Casey File and Nicole Lyons each added career-high totals of four points. A total of 11 Continentals recorded either a goal or an assist.

Hamilton's defense held the Red Dragons off the scoreboard for nearly 19 minutes to start the game, building a 6-0 lead by that point. Jackie Cuddy scored twice in that stretch, McCarthy scored one goal and assisted on two others and File picked up a goal and an assist.

Oneonta finally broke through and ripped off three straight goals to pull to within 6-3. Hamilton answered with two quick goals by Lyons, before Casey scored a women-up goal to cut the lead to 8-4. File scored with 10 seconds left in the half to give the Continentals a 9-5 halftime advantage.

The Red Dragons netted the first goal of the second half just under five minutes in, but the Continentals held Oneonta scoreless the rest of the way and quickly pulled away from their 9-5 lead as File, Lyons and McCarthy each scored in a 72-second span.

Oneonta (2-4) will be in action next, as they play the nightcap in a day-night lacrosse doubleheader over at Hartwick College next Wednesday night. The women will draw at 6pm after the Oneonta and Hartwick men battle at 4pm.
