The SUNY Oneonta field hockey team needed a win today to secure the final SUNYAC playoff spot and got it with a 2-1 victory in overtime against the Oswego Lakers. Junior
Sierra Palmatier (Nineveh/Afton Central) scored the biggest goal of her SUNY Oneonta career on a penalty stoke goal to send Oneonta into the SUNYAC playoffs.
The Oswego Lakers would find the back of the cage 32 minutes into the game when Monica Harvey would beat the Oneonta goaltender to give the Lakers a 1-0 advantage going into halftime.
Oneonta would come out of halftime playing with a lot of fire, scoring the equalizer five minutes into the second half. The goal came off the stick of junior
Casey Stata (Round Lake/Shenendehowa), she was assisted on the play by sophomore
Amanda Frayer (Harpursville/Harpursville). Â The Red Dragons would keep up the pressure by peppering 18 more shots in the half, and would play the majority of the half in their offensive third.
With momentum leaning towards Oneonta, they headed into overtime tied 1-1.
