Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's soccer upended at New Paltz 1-0

The No. 7 SUNY Oneonta men's soccer team couldn't sneak one past the New Paltz keeper today, as they dropped a 1-0 road contest.  The loss, which was the first conference loss for the Red Dragons, also snapped Oneonta's 12-game unbeaten streak.

"We played well enough, but we couldn't finish our chances," said Coach Iain Byrne.  "That concludes six games on the road and we are looking forward to getting home for our final four games of the regular season."

Oneonta (11-3-1, 5-1-1 SUNYAC) outshot New Paltz (6-3-6, 2-3-1) 14-8, but couldn't overcome a goal by James Hennessy 27 minutes into the match.

The goal came on a free kick from behind midfield which floated into the box.  Oneonta keeper Ryan Wilson (Poughkeepsie/Arlington) tried punching the ball away but it tipped off his knuckles and found the back of the net.

Both teams had several scoring chances for the remainder of the contest but could not capitalize as New Paltz held on for the win.

Wilson made one save today while his counterpart John Guzzo made four stops.

Oneonta begins its final home stand of the regular season this coming Tuesday when they host Morrisville beginning at 3pm.
