Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer settles for scoreless tie at Brockport

BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The SUNY Oneonta men's soccer team's high powered offense was held in check today at Brockport, as the two squads battled to a scoreless draw.  The tie keeps the Red Dragons unbeaten streak in tack, as they are 8-0-1 in its last nine matches.  Oneonta is now 8-2-1 overall and 3-0-1 in the SUNYAC while Brockport moves to 2-5-2 overall and 1-2-1 in conference play.

"We didn't do enough to win today," commented Head Coach Iain Byrne.  "After halftime, they took us out of our game and the ball seemed to be in the air the rest of the game.  This is a difficult back-to-back weekend for us, so overall it was a successful road trip."

The contest proved to be a physical battle, with each team's defense stepping up at crucial moments. In the first half, the Golden Eagles fired four shots, holding their opponents to just three. The evenly matched contest continued in the second half, with each squad getting five shots off and each team making four saves, forcing overtime.

In the first overtime period, the Golden Eagles had four shots, with their best opportunity coming late in the overtime period. Following an Oneonta foul on the keeper, Justin Mercer was awarded a penalty kick. As the shot headed toward the bottom left corner of the goal, freshman Ryan Wilson (Poughkeepsie/Arlington) came up with the stop, forcing a second overtime period.

In the final OT, Oneonta charged hard, but couldn't find the back of the goal.

Each team had six shots on goal in the contest, with Brockport holding a slight edge overall their 13-11.

Wilson finished the match with six saves.

The Red Dragons will continue on the road next weekend with back-to-back matches at Plattsburgh on Friday and Potsdam on Saturday.
