The SUNY Oneonta Volleyball team won three of its four matches this weekend at the RIT Invitational. The Red Dragons are now 7-5 overall with the victories.
The Red Dragons toughest matchup came against host RIT, where Oneonta would find themselves in a 2-0 hole. They would come back and win the next three sets to beat the Tigers. The Red Dragons

Oneonta vs St. John FisherThe Red Dragons took down the Cardinals 3-1 in the opening match of the tournament. Paige Carplunk led the team in points with 10 including five aces. The Red Dragons took the first two matches before they dropped the third match in a thriller 24-26. They would gather themselves and take the fourth set with ease 25-12.
Oneonta vs Medaille Oneonta was served their only loss of the tournament by Medaille. The Red Dragons dropped the first set of the match 17-25, but they would rally right back with an impressive 25-15 win of their own to tie the series up at 1 apiece. The Mavericks would have an answer for the Red Dragons in the third set winning a close game 21-25. This would lead to a Red Dragons close win 25-23. Going into the deciding fifth set the Mavericks would end up taking the last set 15-9. The leading scorer for the match was the Mavericks Susan Muldoon with 22.5 pts. Oneonta vs RITRIT won the first two sets by scores of 25-21 and 25-20, before the Red Dragons took the third set, 25-19. The Tigers led 6-0 in set four before Oneonta came roaring back for another 25-19 win. The Red Dragons completed their big comeback with a 15-12 fifth set win. Jessica Pelaccio (Verplanck/Hendrick Hudson) added 23 assists.
Oneonta vs NazarethOneonta would continue to stay hot and would knock Nazareth off in three set. The Red Dragons would win 25- 23, 25-22, 25-20. The key play for the Red Dragons would be Darpino who had 11.5 points and nine kills in the match. Just behind her in point total was sophomore
Justine Abbate (Massapequa/Massapequa) who had seven points.
The Red Dragons are back in action at home next weekend when they host one of the SUNYAC pool plays. Their first matchup of the weekend with be against Brockport at 5pm on Friday in the Dewar Arena.
