Oswego, NY - The SUNY Oneonta women's tennis team got back on the winning track today versus Oswego after dropping three straight matches. This all important conference matchup against the Lakers went in the Red Dragons favor with a 9-0 blanking of their SUNYAC foe.
In doubles, all three pairs were off the court in less than an hour when they only dropped a total of two games. Senior
Michelle Spencer (Homer/Homer) and sophomore
Alana Green (Pittsford/Pittsford) dropped the first game of the match and then ran off eight straight games to collect an 8-1 triumph at the number one spot. Senior
Samantha Butcher (Sidney/Sidney Central) and junior
Christine Santarsiero (Rye Brook/Blind Brook) also had little trouble putting their opponents away with the identical score of 8-1 at the second doubles position. The Red Dragons' third doubles tandem were also victorious when freshman
Faith Haedrich (Islip/Islip) and sophomore
Samantha Felice (Seneca Falls/Mynderse Academy) 8-0.
Singles competition was also a lopsided affair as Green had little trouble disposing of her opponent at number one with a 6-1, 6-0 win. Spencer was also successful at second singles downing her adversary 6-2, 6-1. Freshman
Michelle Halpern (Rye Brook/Blind Brook) gained her second career win as a Red Dragon winning 6-1, 6-0. Butcher and Santarsiero never faltered at the number four and five positions winning 6-1, 6-2 and 6-2, 6-0 respectfully. Freshman Aubrey Hodnett also gained Red Dragon career victory number two with a resounding performance and completing the team shutout for SUNY Oneonta with dominating 6-1, 6-2 performance.
A quick turnaround for the Red Dragons who host Scranton tomorrow beginning at noon.
