The SUNY Oneonta women's volleyball team competed this weekend at the Union Invitational and came away 1-3 for the two-day event, as they are now 4-4 overall in the early going. The Red Dragons picked up their lone win against Skidmore on Friday night in four sets (24-26, 25-18, 25-13, 25-23).  Senior
Jill Darpino (Endicott/Union Endicott) was named to the All- tournament team after leading Oneonta with 39 kills in the tournament. Darpino is also leading the team this season in points with 85.
Oneonta vs. St. Michael's The Red Dragons dropped their first game this weekend to St. Michael's in four sets. Darpino led the team with 11 kills and junior
Paige Carpluk (Yaphank/Bellport) added another 10 kills in the match. Senior
Karly Greco (East Patchogue/Bellport) and junior
Jessica Pelaccio (Verplanck/Hendrick Hudson) each had 11 assists. Senior
Allyson Coniglione (Glenville/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) and Carpluk combined for a total of 41 digs.
Oneonta vs. SkidmoreOneonta dropped the first set of the match against the Thoroughbred's 24-26. After this the Red Dragons got back on track and won the next three sets to win the match 3-1. Darpino had 10 kills in the match and classmate Coniglione had 20 digs.
Oneonta vs. UnionOneonta lost an emotional match in five sets. The Red Dragons dropped the first set 16-25 against the Dutchwomen. For the next two sets the Red Dragons would rally and take both of those set 25-21 and 25-11. In the fourth set the Red Dragons lost 25-18. This would lead to the final set, had a 13-9 lead when the Dutchwomen rallied to win the set (13-15) and the match 3-2.  Greco had her tournament high 19 assists and Coniglione had 22 digs.
Oneonta vs. WilliamsOneonta lost the match in three sets to Williams, Darpino had 10 kills and classmate Greco had 13 assists in the match.
The Red Dragons are back in action next weekend Sep. 18-19 at the RIT Invitational.
