Brockport, NY - A 3 1/2 hour van ride to SUNY Brockport to take on its women's tennis squad was followed by a 4 1/2 hour marathon dual against their western division conference foes that ultimately found the Red Dragons losing to the Golden Eagles 5-4.  The drama did not end until after the last two singles matches were still on the court simultaneously battling it out for victory.  At the 5th and 6th singles respectively, freshman Michelle Halpern (Rye Brook/Blind Brook) and sophomore Samantha Felice (Seneca Falls/Mynderse Academy) both had long matches go into the third set.  With the Golden Eagles holding a 4-3 edge, Halpern won her match 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 clinching her first win as a Red Dragon and deadlocking the team match at 4-4.  This left it up to Felice who lost the first set and was down 0-3 in the second set before running off six games to force a third and deciding set for dual match supremacy.  Felice looking for her first win of the season lost the third set 1-6, which clinched the match victory for the Golden Eagles.

The match found the Red Dragons up 2-1 after doubles competition when sophomore Alana Green (Pittsford/Pittsford) and senior Michelle Spencer (Homer/Homer) won at first doubles 8-6 followed by senior Samantha Butcher (Sidney/Sidney Central) and freshman Faith Haedrich (Islip/Islip) also claiming victory at second doubles with an identical score of 8-6.  In addition to Halpern's singles win, Green was also triumphant at number one singles 6-1, 7-5 in only her second career singles victory holding the top spot for the Red Dragon team.

The Red Dragons host Hamilton College on the campus of SUNY Oneonta on Thursday, September 17th beginning at 4 PM.
