The SUNY Oneonta women's lacrosse team battled valiantly today against No. 20 Fredonia, but came up on the short end of a 10-9 result.

Senior Marissa Cussins scored the decisive goal with 22 seconds remaining in the contest. The ensuing draw control went to Fredonia after the ball went out of bounds and they ran out the final 13 seconds.

The largest lead of the came early in the second half when Cussins' first goal of the game gave Fredonia (12-2, 5-1 SUNYAC) a 6-3 lead. All three of Cussins' goals came in the second half after not playing the entire first half.

Oneonta charged back with three unanswered including back-to-back free position goals by senior
Jillian Donodeo (Holbrook/Sachem East). Donodeo finished today's game with five goals to lead Oneonta (6-9, 2-3 SUNYAC).

The two teams traded goals for the rest of the game. Senior
Michelle Genovese (West Islip/West Islip) tied the game for Oneonta with 2:10 left in the game. Freshman
Taylor Casey (Garden City South/Kellenberg Memorial) contributed her 12
th assist of the season on the goal.

The game began with the two squads trading goals before back-to-back goals by Donodeo gave Oneonta its only lead of the game at 3-2. Fredonia closed the half with three straight to take a 5-3 lead into the break.

Rori Stark (Brewster/Brewster) had a solid game in goal for the Red Dragons today, making six saves while her counterpart, Nicole Burrows, came up with 13 saves.

Oneonta will be home again on Tuesday when they host New Paltz for a SUNYAC contest beginning at 4pm.
