Seniors Power Women’s Lacrosse over Potsdam

Donodeo, Fioretti 4 goals each

April 14, 2015

The SUNY Oneonta women's lacrosse team opened a season-ending four-game home stand with a 14-8 victory over SUNYAC foe Potsdam Tuesday evening. The senior class combined for 11 of the goals. Jillian Donodeo (Holbrook/Sachem East) and Nikki Fioretti (Yorktown Heights/Yorktown) each tallied four, Michelle Genovese (West Islip/West Islip) added a pair and Nicole Boylan (Massapequa/Massapequa) notched one.

It was freshaman Taylor Casey (Garden City South/Kellenberg Memorial) that opened the scoring, however. The rookie picked up her 52nd goal of the season just 1:09 into the game with an assist from Donodeo.

Seniors combined for the next five goals. Fioretti scored on an unassisted goal at 1:37, and on a free position shot at 8:15. Donodeo pocketed a free position goal at the seven-minute mark and buried a feed from Katie Flannery (Massapequa/Plainedge) at just over seven minutes later.

Junior Rebecca Fildes (Red Hook/Red Hook) scored her second goal of the year to cap the Red and White's game-opening 7-0 run.

The Bears got a pair of goals back, first from Murphy Newman at 21:22 then from Bri McClusky at 24:38 before Genovese ended the first half by sandwiching a pair of free position goals around a Potsdam goal.

Oneonta held a 9-3 halftime advantage as they outshot the opponent 20-7 and going 4-4 on free position attempts.

Scoring in the second half came in spurts.  Fioretti scored the first two goals of the half at 3:04 and 12:15, followed by the Bears scoring two in a three-minute span.

The Red Dragons final surge came with just under 10 minutes to play as Donodeo tallied two more around Jaime Morris (West Nyack/Clarkstown South)'s 13 goal of the year.

Potsdam scored the games final three goals, but it wasn't enough.

Junior Rori Stark (Brewster/Brewster) picked up her third win of the year with three saves.

The Red Dragons are back in action on Saturday when they take on #25Fredonia at 11 am.
