The SUNY Oneonta men's basketball team battled all the way back to take a 64-63 lead with less than five minutes to go, but it was Plattsburgh that came away with a 74-71 victory tonight in SUNYAC men's action.
 
Oneonta (9-10, 6-6 SUNYAC) was holding a 71-67 lead with 43 seconds remaining after sophomore Lawrence Coleman (Croton on Hudson/Hendrick Hudson) made 1-of-2 free throws.
 
On the ensuing possession by Plattsburgh (14-5, 9-3 SUNYAC) senior Mike Mitchell drained a three-pointer to cut the deficit to one point with 36 seconds left.  The final four points for the Cardinals came from senior Jordan Moody, who converted all four of the free throws that he was awarded after fouls by Oneonta.
 
Oneonta had one final possession, but turned it over with three-tenths of a second left on the clock.
 
Moody led all scorers in the contest with 24 points.  Mitchell and junior Kyle Richardson each added 12 points to the victory.
 
A 12-0 run for the Cardinals in the first half broke open a close game, as they took a 21-10 lead with just under 12 minutes to go.  Plattsburgh converted three from long range during the run.  The Cardinals made 8-of-16 from behind the arc in the opening twenty minutes.
 
Oneonta battled back and worked their way to a five-point deficit at halftime at 41-36.  The Red Dragons trailed 36-25 with 3:39 remaining in the half.  Three straight three pointers, including a pair by Coleman closed the half for Oneonta.
 
Coleman led Oneonta with 17 points on 5-of-8 shooting.  Junior Mikey McElroy (Saratoga Springs/Saratoga Springs) added 14 points while classmate Jackson Zuvic (Cold Spring/Haldane) came of the bench to score 15 points.
 
Oneonta will host SUNY Potsdam tomorrow afternoon for another SUNYAC contest beginning at 2pm.
