The SUNY Oneonta men's basketball team had four players in double figures including two players that also collected double-digit rebounds, as the Red Dragons pulled away in the final 10 minutes to pick up a well deserved 82-67 victory today at home against SUNY Potsdam.
Â
As he did last night, sophomore
Lawrence Coleman (Croton on Hudson/Hendrick Hudson) led Oneonta (10-10, 7-6 SUNYAC) with 17 points. He also collected 10 boards in the contest while making 7-of-11 shots from the field.
Â
Joining Coleman in double figures was senior
Zach Mager (New City/Clarkstown South) with 16 points, junior
Mikey McElroy (Saratoga Springs/Saratoga Springs) with 13 points and senior
Kareem Williams (Bronx/IN-Tech Academy) with 12 points. McElroy also added 11 rebounds, three assists and a couple of highlight dunks.
Â
Rishawd Hendricks made a pair of free throws at the 10:34 mark to give Potsdam (2-17, 1-12 SUNYAC) its last lead at 55-54. From that point on it was all Oneonta, as they took command of the game. Hendricks reached double figures in the game with 12 points.
Â
An old fashioned three-point play by Mager gave the Red Dragons the lead for good, as they pulled away. Over the next seven minutes, Oneonta opened up its lead with a 19-6 burst capped by a three-pointer by Mager with less than four minutes left on the clock.
Â
Potsdam held an eight-point lead on two separate occasions in the first half. Senior Zac Adams led the Bears with 13 points in the opening stanza. Potsdam led for the first 16 minutes of the game. Adams finished the game leading all scorers with 19 points.
Â
A layup by sophomore
Lawrence Coleman (Croton on Hudson/Hendrick Hudson) at the 3:52 mark capped a 9-0 run by the Red Dragons and gave them its first lead at 31-30. Â The two teams exchanged the lead a couple of times more over the final four minutes with Oneonta carrying a 40-38 lead into the break.
Â
Oneonta will travel to Cortland Tuesday looking for the season sweep against its rival Red Dragons. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30pm.
