Despite three players in double figures, the SUNY Oneonta men's basketball team fell today at home to visiting Plattsburgh 85-67. The loss for the Red Dragons drops them to 3-2 overall and 1-1 in the SUNYAC while the Cardinals move to 4-1 overall and 2-0 in conference play.

Mikey McElroy (Saratoga Springs/Saratoga Springs) who scored 18 points and grabbed a game high 13 rebounds. Classmate
Jack Dignan (Brewster/Brewster) and junior
Lawrence Coleman (Croton on the Hudson/Hendrick Hudson) contributed 13 and 16 points respectively.

The biggest difference in today's contest was the play of the reserves for Plattsburgh along with offensive rebounds, as they outscored Oneonta 26-6 while grabbing 18 rebounds on the offensive end. Sophomore Eli Bryant led the Cardinals bench with 10 points. The rebounds led to 16 second chance points.

Bryant was one of four Cardinals to reach double figures today. Senior Kyle Richardson led all scorers with 22 points to go with a team high nine boards. Senior Edward Correa and sophomore Zack Coleman scored 14 and 13 points respectively.

The two teams exchanged runs in the opening five minutes of the game with the last spurt going in favor of the Cardinals to take an 11-7 lead.

Oneonta countered with an 11-2 run over the next four minutes capped by a three-pointer by senior
Seth Thomsen (South New Berlin/Norwich). Thomsen paced the Red Dragons in the first half with seven points.

The Cardinals then scored 12 unanswered to grab the lead back at 25-18 with 7:21 remaining in the opening half. Senior Edward Correa led the run with a pair of three-pointers and ended the half leading Plattsburgh with eight points.

Another 8-0 spurt for the Cardinals gave them its biggest lead of the first half at 38-25 with just over three minutes to go.

Oneonta will look to rebound this Wednesday, Dec. 9 against Williams College at home beginning at 7pm.
