The SUNY Oneonta men's basketball team didn't miss much last night en route to a 105-88 victory against city-rival Hartwick College. The Red Dragons were red hot, shooting 63 percent from the floor in picking up its first win versus the Hawks since 2009.
Â
Leading the way was junior
Lawrence Coleman (Croton on the Hudson/Hendrick Hudson) who scored a career high 32 points that included a perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line. Coleman was one of four Red Dragons in double figures, as seniors
Jackson Zuvic (Cold Spring/Haldane) and
Jack Dignan (Brewster/Brewster) and sophomore
Ian Schupp (New Hampton/Goshen) added 19, 13 and 12 points respectively.
Â
Oneonta (2-1) connected on 11-of-20 from deep led by Zuvic who made three from behind the arc. Seven players made a three-point basket in the game for the Red Dragons with Coleman and Schupp each hitting a pair from long range.
Â
Oneonta never trailed in the game, as they scored the first 10 points of the contest en route to a 10-point lead at halftime 56-46.
Â
Hartwick made an early run at Oneonta to begin the second half cutting its deficit to 58-56, but the Red Dragons countered with a 10-1 spurt to push its lead back to double digits with 15 minutes to go.
Â
Hartwick got as close as five points with 12:52 remaining, but another 9-1 run by Oneonta grew its lead back to 13 points with just under 10 minutes left in the contest.
Â
The Hawks did cut the lead back to single digits one more time, but Oneonta closed the game outscoring the Hawks, 19-10, over the final 4:55 for its final margin of victory.
Â
Tonight's 105 points for Oneonta was the most since Dec. 2 of 2003 when they put up 106 points against New Paltz in three overtimes. The last time Oneonta scored more than 100 points in a non-overtime game was in 1993 when they scored 108 points versus Practical Bible to open its season.
Â
Oneonta will be home this weekend for a pair of SUNYAC contests. The Red Dragons will host Potsdam on Friday night beginning at 8pm and Plattsburgh on Saturday afternoon beginning at 4pm.
