The SUNY Oneonta wrestling team opened its 2015-16 season Sunday at Roger Williams University.  The Red Dragons came home with one win while dropping a pair of dual matches at the quad meet.
 
Four wrestlers picked up a pair of wins for Oneonta on the day while five rookies recorded their first collegiate wins.
 
Senior Shaun Gillen (Bohemia/Connetquot) and sophomores Anthony Messina (Farmingville/Sachem East) and Adam Groesbeck (Bethlehem/Bethlehem) and freshman Daniel Murphy (Poughkeepsie/Roy C. Ketcham) all recorded two wins.  One of Gillen's victories came via pinfall.  Murphy's first collegiate win came in the team win against Bridgewater State.
 
The other four rookies that recorded their initial collegiate wins were Thomas Marrone (Pleasantville/Pleasantville), Dalton Powell (Suffern/Suffern), Austin Scheer (Oneonta/Oneonta) and Daniel DeCarlo (Port Jervis, NY/Port Jervis).  Scheer recorded a tech fall for his initial victory while Decarlo pinned his opponent from Western New England in 3:36.
 
Oneonta will participate in the Monarch Invitational at King's College this Saturday beginning at 9am.
