The SUNY Oneonta volleyball team lost in three sets to visiting Union College tonight at home. Junior
Paige Carpluk (Yaphank/Bellport) registered 11 kills and senior Allyson Cogniglione had 21 digs for the Red Dragons. The Dutchmen were led by Kelley White who had 13 kills and Amanda Price who had 41 assists.
In the first set, the Red Dragons jumped out to an early 5-1 lead, which ballooned to an 8-2 advantage. Union would counter and closed the gap to 13-12. Oneonta answered back, pushing its lead to a 21-18 lead, but Union would respond to tie the set at 23. Union's momentum carried them on to win 27-25.
The second set was close the entire length until, with the score tied at 18, Union scored four unanswered, which forced Oneonta to call a timeout. After the timeout, Oneonta rallied to shrink the gap to one point, but Union would surge ahead to win the set 25-22.
The third set was also close with Oneonta pulling ahead late in the set, 22-18. Union then rallied to closeout the match with a 25-22 win in the third set.
The Red Dragons are back in action this weekend in Potsdam for the second weekend of SUNYAC pool play. The Red Dragons will face the hosts along with SUNY Geneseo and Fredonia.
