Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's soccer captures fourth straight win against Brockport

Red Dragons record second straight shutout

After spending the first month of the season away from Red Dragon Field, the SUNY Oneonta men's soccer team finally got to run on the new turf and came away with a 1-0 victory against Brockport today in SUNYAC action.  Oneonta (7-2-1/3-0-0 SUNYAC) outshot Brockport (5-2-2/0-1-2 SUNYAC), 14-8, as the Red Dragon defense kept the Golden Eagles out of range.

The two teams played the first 45 minutes to a scoreless draw.  Each team managed one real solid scoring opportunity each, but couldn't find the go-ahead goal.

In the 19th minute, senior David Rougeux of Brockport broke loose enough to catch up to a bounding ball that he got too at about the same time as a charging Vincent Pellegrino (Baldwin/Baldwin) where Pellegrino was able to deflect his attempt wide of the box.  Pellegrino finished the match with four saves.

Six minutes later on a corner kick, senior Jared Van Brunt (Sayville/Sayville) was able to get his head on a service from classmate Dylan Williams (Monroe/Monroe-Woodbury) that just trickled wide of the post.

It was in the 60th minute that Oneonta converted on a corner kick to grab its lead.  Senior Jake Sutherland (Syracuse/West Genesee) finished off a service from classmate Greg Silvestro (West Sayville/Connetquot) with a header that found the open goal.  The goal was Sutherland's fourth of the season.

A couple of minutes later, Brockport had its only scoring threat of the second half on a direct kick from just outside the box.  Senior Peter DiLorenzo took the kick and just skipped his shot off the top of the crossbar.

"The wind made it difficult today for both teams," said Head Coach Iain Byrne.  "I thought we played a lot better in the second half to earn the win."

Oneonta will host SUNY Geneseo tomorrow afternoon beginning at 1pm on Red Dragon Field.
