Men's basketball falls at home to SUNY Geneseo

Senior Zach Mager (New City/Clarkstown South) scored 14 points, but host SUNY Oneonta fell tonight to visiting SUNY Geneseo 71-58.  The Knights shot nearly 48 percent for the game and outrebounded the Red Dragons 46-31 en route to raising its record to 6-3 overall and 2-0 in the SUNYAC.  The loss for Oneonta dropped them to 5-6 overall and 2-2 in the SUNYAC.
 
After grabbing a 37-25 halftime lead, Geneseo continued to control the game in the second half where they led by as many as 19 points with just under 12 minutes to play.  Senior James McKenna led all scorers in the game with 18 points.  Classmate Gordon Lyons scored 10 points while grabbing a game high 16 boards.  Seniors Devon Anderson and Andy Drescher each contributed 12 points for the Knights.
 
Junior Jack Dignan (Brewster/Brewster) came off the bench for Oneonta to score 13 points including 11 in the second half.  Sophomore Lawrence Coleman (Croton on Hudson/Hendrick Hudson) added 11 points.
 
Oneonta led early, 7-2, before Geneseo began a push that gave them its first lead of the opening half 10-9.  Senior James McKenna drained a three to give the Knights the lead.
 
Sophomore Lawrence Coleman (Croton on Hudson/Hendrick Hudson) answered right back with a three-pointer for Oneonta to take the lead back at 12-10.  The Knights then put together a 20-4 run over the next eight minutes to build a 30-16 lead with just over six minutes to go.
 
Oneonta will be back home tomorrow afternoon against Brockport.  Tipoff is scheduled for 2pm.
