Cortland, NY - The SUNY Oneonta Women's Tennis team opened up the season with conference play Friday afternoon, winning 7-2 against conference rival SUNY Plattsburgh.
The dual match played on the campus of SUNY Cortland, a neutral site, began with a sweep at doubles.

Brynn Sussman (Highland Mills/Monroe-Woodbury),
teaming together for the first time, won handily 8-3. Emily Denney, a transfer from Broom Community College, and Senior Kelly Gochan (Lake Grove/Sachem North) shutout their opponents 8-0. Freshman Keri Picciochi (Flushing/The Mary Louis Acamdemy) and sophomore Christine Santarsiero (Rye Brook/Blind Brook) rounded out the completion of the doubles sweep by routing their opponents 8-2. The Red Dragons followed up their doubles wins with singles victories in four out of the six positions. Highlighting the singles competitions was Sussman, the lone senior, with a 6-0, 6-0 victory at number 1 singles. A victory at third singles from Spencer with a convincing 6-1, 6-1 triumph proved to be the clinching match in the dual contest.
Highlighting the afternoon's competition was a sixth singles victory by Sanatarsiero coming back from 0-5 down in the first set winning the match 7-5, 6-1. Also making her SUNY Oneonta Red Dragon debut and getting her first collegiate single win was Freshman
Keri Picciochi (Flushing/The Mary Louis Acamdemy) with a 6-2, 6-0 score.
The Red Dragons will play their second match of the weekend also at The SUNY Cortland Tennis Courts verses the always strong SUNY New Paltz Hawks at 10 AM, Sept. 6th.
