Cortland, NY - On the second day of Women's Tennis Eastern Conference Pool Play the SUNY Oneonta Red Dragons matched up against one of their top rivals, the always dangerous SUNY New Paltz Hawks. 

Doubles began the day's competition with Junior Emily Denney and Senior Kelly Gochan (Lake Grove/Sachem North) highlighting the lone doubles victory with an upset win at second doubles defeating their opponents 8-6 in a tight see saw battle.  Denney served out the final game to secure victory.  At number one and three doubles respectfully the teams of Spencer and Sussman and Santarsiero and Picciochi both kept their matches close before each team succumbed to 8-4 defeats.

The highlight of the day was a very impressive triumph from Brynn Sussman (Highland Mills/Monroe-Woodbury)  at number one singles grinding out a 7-6, 7-5 victory.  With her teammates and family rooting her on at courtside she was able to salvage the lone singles victory for the Red Dragons.  Sussman said "It was one of the best matches I ever played as a member of the Red Dragons, I was also very proud of my teammates as they all battled through a lot of adversity today, even though we as a team were on the short side of the dual match, I thank them all for supporting me out there".

As the New Paltz Hawks are one of the teams favored to win the conference; The Red Dragons moved a little closer to their competition improving from a 0-9 defeat in 2013.  SUNY Oneonta proving that a bright future exists with four new players on their roster was able to put a scare into their SUNYAC Conference Rival.

The Red Dragons will be back in action on Friday, Sept. 12th at SUNY Oneonta when they face off against SUNY Brockport at 4 PM.
