Taking place on the SUNY Oneonta home tennis courts was an encounter between SUNY East and West Rivals. The SUNY Oneonta Red Dragons hosting the SUNY Brockport Golden Eagles on a cool fall like afternoon turned out to be an amazing battle of wills which did not end until dusk.
The Golden Eagles won in a tightly contested match which was very tense until the last ball was struck with a 6-3 win over Oneonta. The highlight for the Red Dragons came at number two doubles where
Kelly Gochan (Lake Grove/Sachem North) (Lake Grove/Sachem North) and partner Emily Denney (Sidney/Central Sidney) won by a score of 8-5 for the lone point in doubles competition. That match keeps Denney and Gochan undefeated in conference play thus far in this young season.
Singles competition brought another win for Captain
Brynn Sussman (Highland Mills/Monroe-Woodbury) (Highland Mills/Monroe-Woodbury) who also remains undefeated within the conference as she posted a lopsided 6-0, 6-1 triumph at number one singles. Freshman
Keri Picciochi (Flushing/The Mary Louis Acamdemy) (Flushing/The Mary Louis Academy) recorded
her second win at number four singles with a convincing 6-1, 6-4 victory.
