SCRANTON, Pa. - The SUNY Oneonta Red Dragons Women's Tennis Team traveled down to The University of Scranton to take on the Royals on the 16^th of September.  With The Red Dragons lineup depleted because of the injury bug, SUNY Oneonta fell to University of bringing their record to 1-3.

The Red Dragons played courageous tennis throughout despite the 0-9 score.  In two of the doubles matches Oneonta kept it close even being up breaks late in the matches.  The number 1 team of Kelly Gochan (Lake Grove/Sachem North) and Brynn Sussman (Highland Mills/Monroe-Woodbury) held a 6-3 lead at one point but could not close out the match losing 7-9.  At number 3 doubles Christine Santarsiero (Rye Brook/Blind Brook) and Samantha Butcher (Sidney/Sidney Central) suffered  a similar fate as they also had several leads but could not get the victory and endured a 7-9 defeat.

In singles number 1 Brynn Sussman (Highland Mills/Monroe-Woodbury) played a tight match with many long rallies but ultimately came up short on a 4-6, 2-6 setback to Emily Walsh of Scranton.  Down 2-5 in the first set Sussman drew close to get it to 4-5 but fell just short of tying the set.  In the second set Sussman eluded match points but just could not get over the hump before dropping the contest.

At number five singles Christine Santarsiero (Rye Brook/Blind Brook) pushed her opponent to the limit extending her challenger to 3-6, 4-6.  She held leads in the match but could not win the big points.  The match was also highlighted with many long exchanges and fantastic sportsmanship.
 
The Lady Red Dragons will have little time to lick their wounds as they return home the very next day to take on the Hamilton Continentals at 4 PM.
