After a tough day of competition in Pennsylvania the day prior and a late night return.  The SUNY Oneonta Lady Red Dragons staggered home and had to throttle back up against the Hamilton Lady Continentals of the NESCAC conference.  That particular conference has some of the better Division III players in the country.  With The Continentals "A" lineup in tack and the Red Dragons missing key players because of injury ensued a battle of Upstate New York rivals.

Play began at doubles where the number 2 team of Emily Denney and Michelle Spencer (Homer/Homer) started out with a lead but could not hold on finally losing 5-8.  Christine Santarsiero (Rye Brook/Blind Brook) and Samantha Butcher (Sidney/Sidney Central)  playing at number 3 found themselves in a struggle also taking a lead early in the match but could not withstand the onslaught and had to surrender the match when the last ball was struck losing 4-8.

In singles Brynn Sussman (Highland Mills/Monroe-Woodbury)  continues to show championship form and took down the Continentals number 1 player dismantling her 6-4, 6-2.  Early in the fall 2014 season Brynn has jumped out to a 4-1 mark with her impressive win today.  Brynn continues to display a high level of tennis during this run.  Red Dragons will continue to need her to lead the way as they get into the meat of the season.

Emily Denney at number 5 singles although coming out on the short end of her competition displayed a willingness to stay out on the court as long as needed fighting through several aches and pains.  The score a 2-6, 2-6 loss was not representative of the competitive spirit she displayed today demonstrating Red Dragon pride.

With a healthier lineup ready to play The Red Dragons will try and get back on the winning track when they welcome the SUNY Oswego Lady Lakers to the A.J. Heissan Tennis Courts on the campus of SUNY Oneonta at 4 PM, Friday, Sept, 19^th.
