Field Hockey surges past St. Lawrence 5-2

Red Dragons score four goals in the second half

Box Score SUNY Oneonta senior Kelcy Forbragd (Camden/Camden) scored two goals and added an assist in leading the Red Dragons past St. Lawrence today, 5-2, in non-conference action.  Oneonta posted four goals in the second half to pull away from the Saints en route to a victory that puts them at 2-0 to begin the season.

A goal by Anna Hughes early into the second half tied the score for St. Lawrence at 1-1.  The goal came unassisted after a scramble in front of the goal.  Hughes got her stick on the ball to get it across the line for the score.

The game wasn't tied for long, as Forbragd notched her first of the game less than one minute later.  Her goal came in a similar fashion as Hughes', as she was able to knock home a loose ball that squeezed behind the St. Lawrence goalie.

Ten minutes later Forbragd scored the eventual game-winner with an assist from classmate Andrea Day (Greene/Greene), which gave Oneonta a 3-1 lead.

The Saints pulled to within one goal when Katie Klein scored in the 57th minute off an assist from Kara Pelosi.  Pelosi dodged a couple of defenders before centering a pass to Klein, who knocked it home.

The Red Dragons shut the door with back-to-back goals by Day and sophomore Bailee Barrett (Camden/Camden) in the 61st and 65th minutes.  Bailee assisted on Day's goal while Forbragd assisted on Barrett's.

Despite being outshot in the opening half, Oneonta held a 1-0 lead on a goal by sophomore Erin Butler (Walton/Walton) with an assist going to senior Sierra Earle (Baldwinsville/Baldwinsville).  Butler was able to redirect a pass into the back of the goal from Earle off a penalty corner.

Senior Tess Tracy (Liverpool/Liverpool) made eight saves in goal for Oneonta to move to 2-0 on the season.  Her counterpart, Kim Haab, made eight saves as well.

Oneonta is next in action next Saturday at Rochester beginning at 1pm.
