Field Hockey grabs season opening win against Wooster

Sophomore Bailee Barrett nets game-winner in second half

Box Score SUNY Oneonta sophomore Bailee Barrett (Camden/Camden) scored her first goal in a Red Dragon uniform in the second half to lift the hosts to a 2-1 season opening win against the College of Wooster.  Barrett converted a crossing pass from senior Andrea Day (Greene/Greene).

Wooster carried play throughout most of the first half and finished the first 35 minutes with a 6-3 edge in shots.  In the 13th minute junior Angela Galimberti capitalized on a penalty corner, as she took the insert pass from sophomore Kerry O'Connor before banging in past Tracy for the 1-0 lead.

Oneonta began to establish some momentum in the latter part of the half and finally tied the score in the 31st minute on a goal by Day.  Classmate Kelcy Forbragd (Camden/Camden) centered a pass into the goal area where Day one-timed it past goalie Carrie Mount.

Oneonta senior Tess Tracy (Liverpool/Liverpool) made 11 saves including nine in the second half to pick up her first victory of 2014.  Tracy came up big with a diving stop at the two-minute mark on a shot by O'Connor, who was stationed on the back post on a corner.

Mount registered seven saves in goal for the Fighting Scots.

Both squads will play again tomorrow at All College Field, as Wooster will take on Utica College at 11:30am and Oneonta will play St. Lawrence at 1:30pm.
