Wrestlers close out regular season with win at RIT

The SUNY Oneonta wrestling team closed out its regular season yesterday with a 24-21 victory at RIT.  The Red Dragons finished with an overall dual-match record of 10-9, as they now will prepare for the NCAA Division III Northeast Regional tournament at Wesleyan University in two weeks.  The regional tournament is the qualifying event for the NCAA Division III championships in Cedar Rapids, IA on Mar. 14-15.

The match for Oneonta was clinched at 197 pounds, as the Red Dragons received a forfeit win to go ahead 24-15.  The two squads split the 10 bouts overall, but the Red Dragons won three bouts by major decisions to accumulate 12 points to go with a pair of forfeit wins to reach its total of 24 points.

Picking up wins in contested weight classes was freshman Dominic DeGraba (Dallas, PA/Dallas) (125), and seniors Ben Mikac (Williamsville/Williamsville East) (141) and Dan Graff (LaGrangeville/Arlington) (174).  Seniors Sean Hanson (Lorraine/South Jefferson) and Chad Obzud (Cohoes/Lansingburgh) were both the beneficiaries of the two forfeits and 133 and 197 respectively.
