Two second-half goals were the difference, as the SUNY Oneonta field hockey team knocked off SUNY Geneseo, 3-1, in a SUNYAC contest today on the road. Â Senior
Andrea Day (Greene/Greene) tucked a three-yard shot inside the left post off a pass in front of the goal by
Bailee Barrett (Camden/Camden) in the 48th minute before senior
Sierra Earle (Baldwinsville/Baldwinsville)'s shot from the top of the circle on a penalty corner attempt made its way through traffic and into the back of the goal in the 64th minute.
Â
"We played very composed hockey today," texted head coach
Kelly Kingsbury. "Playing on grass is always a challenge, but we worked hard and got the job done."
Â
Oneonta (5-4, 2-1 SUNYAC) got on the board in the 26th minute after
Kelcy Forbragd (Camden/Camden) got open behind Geneseo (3-7, 1-1 SUNYAC) junior goalkeeper Dayna Mercer and tipped in a short pass from
Anna Torri (Niskayuna/Niskayuna) off a deflected shot.
Â
With the final seconds of the first half ticking away, junior forward Sarah Malinak tipped in a rebound of a shot by first-year forward Caroline Bates on a penalty corner attempt that was initially saved off the pads of Oneonta goalie
Krista Servedio (Shrub Oak/Lakeland) as the teams headed to intermission tied, 1-1.
Â
Mercer finished with 10 saves while Servedio stopped five Knights' shots to earn her first win of the season.
Â
Oneonta finished with a 17-13 advantage in shots while both teams attempted seven penalty corners.
Â
The Red Dragons will play at Brockport tomorrow beginning at 1pm.
