The SUNY Oneonta field hockey team held No. 11 Skidmore scoreless for nearly 54 minutes while holding a 1-0 lead, but ended up falling today at home 4-1.
Â
Oneonta (8-6) played the Thoroughbreds dead even in the opening half of play despite being outshot 13-0. Senior
Tess Tracy (Liverpool/Liverpool) made eight of her 12 saves in the first half while the defense in front of her was able to hold off the Skidmore (11-3) attack to a standstill.
Â
About a third of the way into the second half Oneonta senior
Andrea Day (Greene/Greene) gave the Red Dragons a 1-0 lead when she one-timed a crossing pass from sophomore
Bailee Barrett (Camden/Camden). It was Day's team-leading 12
th goal of the season.
Â
After a Skidmore timeout, it was all thoroughbreds, as they ran off three goals in a span 2:49 to seize control of the contest. Melanie Webb, Krista Lamoreaux and Dani DeGregory each scored for Skidmore. DeGregory's goal came after she dodged a defender before getting off a shot while falling to the ground that found its way to the back of the goal.
Â
The final goal for the Thoroughbreds came in the 66
th minute by Kayla Rose with an assist from Caroline Saros. For Saros, it was her second assist of the game, as she also assisted on Webb's goal.
Â
Oneonta will be at Morrisville this coming Tuesday to play its final SUNYAC regular game beginning at 4pm.
